MORE

LOOK! Two days in a row!

My first solid week in Christchurch was spent doing almost nothing. The school had us confirm our classes, and as there are a LOT of kids on campus, they had to spread it out over a week. Apart from one day spent signing up for classes, I ate lots of free sausages, bounced on different sorts of inflatable, and wandered around with my NZ IES buddies and Vince and his Frontiers Abroad chums! That weekend we wanted to do lots of hiking, but were unable to get out of bed before 11 Saturday morning. Correction, I got up at 7 to be at Vince’s by 8, and then we went back to bed (I'm not pointing fingers). Once we did manage to get up, we took a bus to New Brighton Library. This has to be one of the most beautiful libraries I have ever seen. It was not big, but its western façade was all glass, and it sat on top of a dune, so you had the most spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean! It was spectacular. Vince and I just read until the library closed, snuggling up on the plush chairs, and admiring the sun speckled water!
Sunday Vince, Lisa, Melissa, Greg, Alyssa and I managed to get up early enough for a trek in the Port Hills. The Port Hills are the remains of a once very active volcano. It created a wondrous landscape, complete with scenic bay area. It was great (and I am really out of shape), and worth every second. The views were spectacular! We could see the rest of the Port Hills, Christchurch, and the Pacific Ocean. The rest of the group wound up moving faster than Vince and I, and we wound up getting separated. They took off for the beach, but Vince and I wandered the hills and found a cave! All in all a fabulous weekend!
Again, I will write more later. Enjoy this for now!!!

Hey all!

Ok, so I warned you that I am very bad at this. Anyway, soooooooo much has happened since last I wrote, im not sure I can even remember it all. For you, my avid fans, I will try.
When I last wrote I was on my way to an orientation trip. We went to a farm and saw sheep herding, and I shore a sheep! We then went to Castle Hill (look it up cause it is SO amazing) and wandered around the rocks and hills. That night we went to a local hang out in Springfield, NZ; the fire station! The fire chief served us beer and we hung out with locals! I played rugby and pool and STUPMS!!! How odd to drink with the firemen, but thank goodness there were no emergencies that night. The next day I went on a scenic horse ride, flew around a river on a jet boat, and then went swimming in the frigid water!
I had emailed vince before setting out, and when I came back, I still had not heard from him, so I hung out with my KIWI family instead. As I was lamenting my lack of vinceness to my host mom, she interrupted me to ask, “does he have curly hair?” and there was my love!!! He had some how found his way to 51a middleton rd from my directions: “im on the other side of riccarton on some road called something like maddison.” So as you can guess, ive been thoroughly distracted.
I will write more later!

Texas Is In The House

So, i've met the other people in the IES program. As you can see, there were alot of people from texas, and quite a few from the state of washington, one person from alaska, and quite a few people from california. Us new englanders are quite the minority, and i may be the only nutmegger among the group! How different, a? (yes, im now canadian as well). There is a guy on the trip who did the IES trip to london last semester and so he stayed at the apartments in chelsea and went to school with Julian and Richard, and D! We talked a good long time about Ben's Cookies and My Old Dutch and Waggamama's! Oh how i miss london.
I think tho the group here is going to be fun.
What i am most happy about is that this first meeting people part is over. The whole flight here i was so nervous, but now that i've met my host family and found some friends among the group, im much better. We are a little clicky as of yet, but so was london, as i recall. We have a day of logitics ahead of us, and then an overnight to the base of the NZed Alps where we can walk around, play touch rugby, take a horse back ridding trip, and cool stuff like that! I bet that will be a good time to meet more of the group and mix up the clicks. The group is also hugely outdoorsy, so i think i am going to have lots of people to go explore the country with! How great!
Well i'm off to school!
